Native tradition of the indigenous peoples sought to bring balance between body, mind and spirit.  I was taught by the Lakota, the Sioux, the Utes and the Paiutes in the ways of the red road. Blessed to have sat in circle with these beloved, I pass on to you the teachings that can light your path. The original medicine is available for those who seek it.
As a result, I post those threads which share a universal path that is all inclusive, reminding us that each one of us have God-given gifts bestowed upon us to share in this world. Learning about medicine the traditional way is also a doorway into the “natural’ and integrative therapies available to us. Integrative therapies are not “alternative” medicine but original medicine utilized wisely by the grandmothers and grandfathers.
The following description is beautifully depicted by Don Coyhis and may shed light on the way of the medicine people:

“The one who wishes to be a true medicine person must be a person of faith, and they can only work successfully with those who also have faith.” — Fools Crow, LAKOTA

Medicine People are spiritual beings who have made a decision to seek the Red Road. They sacrifice and seek the way of the Creator. After many years of dedication, the Grandfathers teach them about power, and about laws, and about how to use the medicine. The Medicine People develop tremendous faith in their medicine and in the Creator. When we go to the Medicine People, we too must have faith so they can help us. We can only be helped if we want to be helped. Because the Medicine People know how to help – that is only one half of it. The other half is up to us. We must have faith that the medicine has powers to help.

My Creator, faith is belief without evidence. Today, give me the faith. Let me trust that You are running my life. Let me know You are in charge of all things. Let my mind not wonder; let me stand strong on Your path today.

The native way always integrates the spiritual with integrative medicine in the belief that the two are interconnected. You cannot have one without the other. The work of spirit is present with any healing regardless of who the healer is, what time or space.
